‘Tis the season, so we’ve put together a list of the best Christmas ads of 2019! Last Christmas we were treated to some real gems, including Sainsbury’s Big Night In, Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot and, of course, John Lewis’s Elton John ad, The Boy and The Piano. Let’s see how this year’s offering compares…
#BeAKidThisChristmas – Hafod Hardware
We’re starting off this list with a Christmas ad from a family-run hardware shop in Wales. Made with a budget of £100, this emotional ad shows that you can still advertise your business effectively without breaking the bank. What works so well in this ad is the clear and touching story that comes straight from the heart.
Christmas at the Click of a Button – Joules
There’s nothing quite like a Wallace & Gromit film at Christmas, so their partnership with Joules is a match made in marketing heaven. Aardman’s lovable duo is quintessentially British, just like the clothing and homeware products sold by Joules. Back in 2011, the founder of Joules, Tom Joule, said that his goal was to create clothing with “colour and fun and entertainment”. We see that the same applies for this year’s Christmas ad.
Nicholas the Sweep – Sainsbury’s
At this time of year, you may think about reading or watching A Christmas Carol. One of the reasons why Sainsbury’s ad made our list is because the dingy Dickensian set and joyful ending harkens back to this classic tale. The story is also a very sweet reimaging of the legend of Saint Nick, painting him as a poor young boy who is inspired to give gifts by Mrs Sainsbury.
The Book of Dreams – Argos
Now we LOVE a bit of pure, unadulterated silliness from time to time. This year’s Christmas ad from Argos is just that. As a father looks through the Argos catalogue, his kitchen is transformed into a concert venue filled with Argos products where he and his daughter play the drums to Simple Minds. We aren’t doing it justice – please just watch it for yourself!
#ExcitableEdgar – John Lewis
It’s not Christmas until John Lewis says so. With the help of a well-meaning yet disastrously clumsy little green dragon, John Lewis made us all feel that toasty festive feeling after releasing its ad on the 13th November. As per tradition, this year’s ad brought a little tear to our eyes, which is one of the main reasons why it’s made our list.
That’s a wrap on our best Christmas ads of 2019! What do you make of our list?
